Simon’s unique images have been created by applying
a paste of stewed Tea and Ochre pigment onto a light tea wash.
Dry ochre pigment is then applied to the surface using a
powder brush and then gradually rubbed back to the white of
the paper in order to create subtle highlights.
Deep tones and the fine details are created by gradually
adding additional layers of the Tea and Ochre paste until
the image comes to life.
A final brushing of Ochre pigment is then applied across
the whole painting to soften the image.
Where stronger highlights are required, the top layer is
removed by an eraser.
The finished painting is then placed in an oven and slowly
baked until dry.
Unscented hairspray is finally applied to the painting to
act as a fixative.
The finished product is best served in a double mount and
wormwood frame.
You now have a taste of African sunshine. |
